Clinical Education and Mentorship at Alaska Medical Clinics
Investing in the Future of Healthcare in Alaska
At Alaska Medical Clinics, which includes both Wasilla Medical Clinic in Wasilla, and Alaska Urgent Care in Anchorage, we believe that today’s students are tomorrow’s providers. That’s why we’re deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals through hands-on learning, mentorship, and clinical education.
For over 25 years, our clinics have not only served the communities of Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley — we’ve helped train the professionals who go on to serve them. If you’re a student looking to build real-world experience in a fast-paced medical environment or someone exploring a career in healthcare, we invite you to learn with us.
Clinical Training Opportunities for Students
We offer real-world training and observation opportunities across both clinic locations. These are designed for students enrolled in medical programs or those beginning their exploration into the healthcare field.

Student Medical Assistants
Work alongside our team of providers and clinical staff to assist in patient care, administrative duties, and the day-to-day functions of a working urgent care clinic. This experience is ideal for students currently enrolled in an accredited medical assistant program who want
hands-on clinical hours.
Advanced Nurse Practitioner Students
As a nurse practitioner student, you’ll be paired with experienced providers who will help guide you
through diagnostic reasoning, patient interaction, and
clinical decision-making in a real patient care setting. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical skills in both
family medicine and
urgent care workflows.
Physician Assistant Students
Our clinics provide robust learning environments for physician assistant students seeking primary care and urgent care rotations. Engage in patient evaluations, develop treatment plans, and practice procedural skills under the close supervision of licensed clinicians.
Shadowing Experiences for Career Exploration
Not sure yet what path you want to take in healthcare? We offer shadowing opportunities for high school graduates, pre-med students, and career changers. These experiences are meant to:
- Offer insight into daily clinical operations
- Help participants observe provider-patient interaction
- Spark interest in various healthcare careers
- Build familiarity with medical terminology, workflows, and roles
While shadowing does not involve direct patient care, it’s a powerful stepping stone for those just beginning their healthcare journey.

AMC-MA Mentorship Program – Medical Assisting With Purpose
For students or recent graduates who are serious about pursuing medical assisting as a career, our AMC-MA Mentorship Program offers in-depth training with an emphasis on:
- Clinical skill development
- Patient care techniques
- Professionalism and communication
- Exam preparation for
national certification
This is more than a shadowing experience—it’s a mentorship track designed to build confidence, competence, and career readiness.
Note: Space in the AMC-MA program is limited. Applicants are encouraged to inquire early and be prepared to commit to a structured training schedule.
